Romain Grosjean leapt from third to first at the start of the Brands Hatch F3 Euroseries race – but took out rival Franck Mailleux on the way.
The two Frenchmen collided as Grosjean moved to take the lead from James Jakes. Grosjean was able to complete the move before the safety car came out. On the tight Brands Hatch Indy circuit there was little chance Grosjean was going to lose his lead.
Kamui Kobayashi and Nico H????lkenberg were promoted to third and fourth by Mailleux’s crash and they too held their positions until the end.
Finishing off the top eight were Tim Sandtler, Yelmer Buurman, Sebastien Buemi and Edoardo Mortara – the latter taking pole position for the second race by finishing eighth.
