Seems like McLaren takes a bit longer to get the tyres in the window and that means they had a distinct advantage in sector 3 where most others already had overheating tyres. But if it rains…That Mcl39 seems to be easily as fickle as the RB21 and I have a suspicion that Max will be able to handle that better than Lando or Piastri.
The rookies where mostly quite disappointing except for Bortoleto. Bearman needs to clean up quick or he will be out before the 2nd half of the season. Lawson needs to settle down and except a deficit of 0,8 or so just to get a result. Going off several times isn’t helping to convince anyone.

Promising start to the season. The top 4 teams are still really close, Mclaren seem to have gained a bit while Ferrari lost a bit, but still within the margins of track specific performance we saw last year. Only now the midfield seem another tenth closer, with mega laps from Albon and Tsunoda getting them in amongst them. Only let down so far is Haas, if this poor start continues they could find themselves alone of the back of the pack…

Pile-up Watch: look to rows 7 & 8 for a good Aussie schemozzle. Three drivers in their first Grand Prix, Lance Stroll (say no more) plus a couple more young ‘uns right behind, desperate to make up some places.
If I was Hulk I would set my car up perfect for the conditions and start from the pit lane…

Apologies to Jack, it’s his 2nd GP. Could make all the difference.

The odds of rain are declining by the hour. It’s down to 40%. Looks like we’re going to miss out on rain. The highest odds are 70% and that’s hours before the race start. So, it looks like at most, maybe a start on intermediates for a handful of laps.
